The longest and most vividly documented domestic chapter at No. 5 belongs to the Buists. Dr Andrew Buist — born in Perth around 1823, trained in Edinburgh — became one of the city's most beloved physicians. As medical officer of health for the Burgh, he was doctor to several Friendly Societies and maintained a very extensive private practice; the Dundee Courier obituary of 14 March 1900 recorded that 'in really genuine cases of distress he seldom pressed for payment', making him one of the most popular men in Perth — the 'Fair City'.
“The genial doctor had been out only the other day.”
— Dundee Courier, on his sudden death, March 1900
When Helen Buist died in April 1911, she left the property to her five daughters: Helen, Janet, Anne, Margaret, and Grace.
Annie lived to 93, Helen Caroline to 94, Grace Evelyn to 87. The house passed to the daughters after Helen's death in 1911 and was finally sold by the family in May 1923. These heirs sold No. 5 in May 1923 to Arthur Kinmond Bell of Campsie Hill and James Morison, accountant, Perth, for £1,100.
