In 1829 Margaret Stewart paid £1,550 sterling for No. 5, acquiring the property through the instrument of sasine which records the conveyance from David Wedderspoon, writer in Perth (acting as attorney for the heirs of William Bisset). Margaret Stewart was the sister of Robert Stewart (or Stuart) of Annat, Errol — born 7 October 1770 at Kilspindie, Perthshire, son of the Reverend Allan Stewart of Kilspindie and Helen (Nellie) Robertson, and a member of the School Committee of the Perthshire Gaelic Society. Robert was the proprietor and tenant of the house from 1825 to his death on 15 October 1846 at Annat by Errol.
Between 1837 and 1848, two of Robert's sisters — Helen and Margaret — lived at the house. Margaret Stewart died in 1848 (buried at Kilspindie). An instrument of sasine dated 21 February 1849 documents a deed of settlement between Margaret and Helen Stewart confirming the transfer of the property within the family.
Helen remained at No. 5 until her own death in 1856.
A later connection, Miss Ernestine Stewart, occupied the house until her death around 1882. When her effects were auctioned at the West End Rooms — antique continental china, oriental pieces, Indian shawls and silk dresses — the sale gave a glimpse of a cultured, comfortable Victorian household. In her will, Miss Stewart left generous legacies to the Perth Royal Infirmary and the Indigent Gentlewomen's Fund.
